01 The bush camp in Mozambique

September 2026
One of Lerato's most meaningful professional experiences was travelling to Mozambique as a Head Facilitator for a real outdoor bush camp. This opportunity gave her the responsibility of leading children in a demanding natural environment while navigating the realities of working across cultures.
Facilitating children from another country and cultural background required adaptability, sensitivity, patience, and a willingness to learn. It strengthened her ability to connect with young people beyond language, familiarity, and routine, while still providing structure, safety, encouragement, and leadership.
During the camp, Lerato helped participants develop practical outdoor and survival skills, including:
- Learning how to make and manage a fire safely.
- Building shelters using limited available materials.
- Understanding how to work together in an outdoor survival environment.
- Finding creative solutions when resources were scarce.
- Building resilience, confidence, and independence through practical challenges.
- Developing respect for nature, teamwork, and shared responsibility.
This experience reinforced her passion for experiential learning: helping children learn not only through instruction, but through doing, exploring, reflecting, and overcoming challenges together.
02 Where it started
Lerato's love for working with children began with a desire to serve as a Sunday School teacher. What started as a calling to teach, guide, and care for children grew into a deeper passion for youth development, mentorship, and facilitation.
It started at Spirit of Christ Ministries, where she taught children aged 3 to 7.
03 Outside the camps
Lerato loves music and ministry work.
Alongside her work with children and youth, Lerato has completed modelling training. This has contributed to her confidence, personal presentation, discipline, communication, and ability to carry herself professionally in different environments.

04 What she would say to a young person
Believe in yourself, keep learning, be brave enough to try, and never stop reaching for your dreams.
